The Best Super Bowl Snacks

As a 49ers fan, I am not thrilled about the Super Bowl this year. I will be watching but my focus will be on the snacks. I love making fun foods to eat on game day all season long and the Super Bowl, being the season finale, requires a special spread. While I haven’t finalized my menu yet (for our party of 2), I know it will contain a few of my favorites from this list below.

Jalapeño Popper Bites

These are a must have for the Super Bowl in our house. They are easy to make and so delicious. The store bought biscuit dough is wrapped around a cheesy, slightly spicy cream cheese jalapeño filling. These are also great to make ahead and pop in the oven just before the game. Get the recipe here.

Baked Buffalo Cauliflower

Another favorite for any game day. This is a twist on the classic buffalo wings. I like to make a batter and bread each cauliflower piece which creates a satisfying outer layer that is perfect for holding on to all that saucy goodness.  Get the full recipe here.

If buffalo isn’t your favorite flavor I have also tossed these in barbeque sauce and served them with ranch for dipping.

Well, anything buffalo goes for game day, right?

The buffalo and blue cheese combo is one of my all time favorites. There are so many ways to make tasty buffalo flavored snacks for game day. These buffalo rice balls are a great popable snack if cauliflower isn’t your thing. Buffalo chickpea wraps are also great and feel a little more like a meal. You could also make a big batch of the chickpeas and make a wrap platter if you are entertaining. Buffalo smashed potatoes are another win! Boil potatoes until soft, toss in oil and smash to flatten a bit. Roast them at 425 until crispy then toss in your favorite buffalo sauce. Top with crumbled blue cheese and green onions and serve with creamy blue cheese for dipping. And last but not least, buffalo deviled eggs! Mix in a bit of buffalo sauce to the mayo and egg yolk mixture. Then once the eggs are assembled top with more sauce and crumbled blue cheese.

Loaded Nachos

loaded vegetarian nachos with avocado, onions, corn and cheese

Another classic football food. Nachos are perfect for grazing. Make a big batch and snack on them throughout the whole game. They are also great because you can easily swap ingredients depending on your flavor preference or whatever you have on hand. My go-to nachos are built in layers almost like a lasagna. Start with a layer of chips and top them with black beans and corn. You could also add roasted veggies or soy chorizo crumbles (or regular chorizo if you prefer). Top all that with a layer of shredded cheese. Then start again with another layer of chips, beans, corn, and cheese. Repeat as many times as you like, just make sure you end with lots of cheese on top. Bake in the oven at 400 for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and some of the chips are starting to look toasted and browned on the edges. Once the nachos are out of the oven top with even more goodies. I like to add pickled onions and jalapeños, avocado, fresh cilantro and cotija cheese and serve them with bowls of salsa and sour cream on the side.

Creamy Cashew Red Pepper Dip

Dips are always good for entertaining. This dip is so creamy and it's vegan! It comes together easily in a blender with ingredients you probably already have on hand. The original recipe is delicious with a mellower flavor but if you want a little more punch, get a can of chipotle chile in adobo and add one chile and a little sauce depending on how spicy you want it to be. Serve this with your favorite crackers, chips, veggies or fresh bread. Get the full recipe here.

Buffalo Chickpea Dip

Another dip, because they are fun to eat! This is a vegetarian take on the buffalo chicken dip with chickpeas added for a little protein boost. This dip is cheesy, creamy and full of those classic buffalo flavors. Get the full recipe here.

Everything Bagel Bites

Another super poppable snack. These are similar to the jalapeño popper bites above. They start with store bought biscuit dough which helps them come together very easily. Mix up a cream cheese filling and wrap the biscuit dough around the filling. Once they are all assembled, top with everything bagel seasoning and bake until golden brown. Get the full recipe here.

Soy Chorizo Chili

I always think of chili as a tailgating food so I think that means it's good for the Super Bowl too. It is definitely a great food for entertaining a crowd. You can make a big batch and set up a chili bar with extra toppings like avocado, cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips. This version is vegetarian but the soy chorizo adds that meaty texture to help satisfy your meat eaters too. Get the full recipe here.

Meatless Meatball Sub

I won’t lie, my meatless meatballs require quite a few ingredients but they are so delicious. It’s worth it, I promise. And who doesn’t love a good meatball sub for football sunday or any day of the week. When I assemble these, I like to add lots of sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil and some grated parm. Vegan White Bean Quesadilla

A tasty and satisfying vegan snack for game day! Why Not! I make a white bean ‘queso’ for these quesadillas and add corn, roasted red peppers and spinach. The flavor combo is so good. If you are entertaining and want to make a quesadilla platter, these are a great option to add for any vegan friends or those with dairy sensitivities. Get the recipe here.

Loaded Potato Wedges

loaded potato wedges with sour cream, jalapeños and chives

Similar to nachos, I love some roasted potato wedges served up with lots of toppings. Maybe I like anything with a variety of toppings. To make these, slice potatoes into wedges and toss in olive oil, salt and pepper. Arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake at 425 for 25 minutes. Flip the potatoes and return them to the oven to cook for another 10-15 minutes until they are nicely browned on the outside and tender on the inside. Top with a layer of cheddar cheese and put them back in the oven for about 3 minutes, just enough to melt the cheese. Then pull the cheesy potato wedges out and top with sour cream, pickled onions and jalapeños and lots of fresh chives. These are addictively delicious.
