Product Highlight: Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle
I love Trader Joe’s... It’s typically the only place I grocery shop but since we have all been trying to stay home, I have not been doing the grocery shopping. Raf has been going once a week to Stop n Shop because there is no line and he can generally find everything he needs in one stop. And this system has worked for us for a few months now but I missed my favorite TJ’s products and seeing new items popping up… I couldn’t take it anymore. For the first time in almost three months, I went to Trader Joe’s.
Now that may seem a little dramatic but we have been overly cautious to keep ourselves and those close to us safe. Raf has been the only one going out if we need anything, my only outings have been on walks or runs around the neighborhood. So my anxiety level on this very simple adventure was pretty high. Armed with a mask, gloves and hand sanitizer, I stood in the socially distanced line and waited my turn to enter the store. Followed the arrows to navigate my way around trying to get in and out as quickly as possible. In my anxious caution I also may have cut the whole line for the register but by the time I realized it, it was too late.. I swear I was just following the arrows! And while I completely forgot several items on my mental shopping list, I did manage to grab this new summer item, Tomato Ketchup with Black Summer Truffle, and I am so happy I did.
I am a big fan of ketchup, well condiments in general, but fries aren’t really worth eating if there isn't ketchup to accompany them. This ketchup steps the game up. It has a slight sweetness and does contain added sugars but I like the sweetness. It still has a good tomato flavor (like tomato paste-ish) but the truffle flavor comes through. It is perfect for dipping fries in and would also be delicious as a spread on a burger or sandwich.
I roasted potato wedges to try with this ketchup. I cut four small potatoes into wedges and tossed them in olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder then roasted them in the oven at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes. I then flipped them and put them back in for another 10 minutes so both sides would be golden brown. Served up the potato wedges with this delicious new ketchup and a simple veggie packed salad for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner.
Overall, highly recommend giving this ketchup a try. If you can safely make it to Trader Joe’s you should grab yourself a bottle. It makes potatoes and ketchup seems fancier. My only complaint is I wish the bottle was bigger, we are going to finish it in no time!
